1.    What exactly is Feng Shui?

Feng Shui is the study of energy in the context of place and time.  If studied and interpreted correctly, it becomes the skill of being in the right place at the right time.  Your place is your home or work environment: its floor plan, orientation and where it fits in the landscape.  The time aspect is related to when you were born and the current position of your birth Star within your environment.

By combining these aspects of place and time you can enhance the good chi (energy) that is available to you and calm down the not so good chi at this present time.

Once you start to look at your home or work place from an energetic perspective you’ll be amazed at the stories it can tell about you and the benefits available to you.

2.    Does it really work?

There are some studies that relate to aspects of Feng Shui and there is plenty of anecdotal evidence.

However a consultation is only the start of the process.  You must be sure that you want to make changes and that you’re ready for those changes to happen.  You need to put the suggestions made after the consultation into practise otherwise nothing will change and why should it?

Some changes are subtle and some are slow.  In this way you don’t always notice them until sometime later when you sit back and review what’s been happening to you.  On the other hand, some are quick and knock you off your feet.

3.    Feng Shui belongs to the East - is it really relevant here in the West?

Energy is energy - wherever you are in the world.  Although a lot of the terms and symbolism are eastern, the processes are very relevant and form as much a part of western heritage - we may just know it as a different name or have forgotten it all together.

Names and symbols aside, we are all part of the human race and, at one level, all seek the same things such as safety and happiness.

4.    I've got a book on Feng Shui - why should I use a consultant?

There are many different styles and forms of Feng Shui and it can be very confusing.  Because books are written for a market rather than an individual they also have to be generic to a certain extent so they don't take account of you and what you want to achieve.

It can also be very tempting to try everything that's suggested in a book which may bring about changes, but not necessarily the changes that you want.

A good consultant will work with your objectives in mind, has a lot of knowledge that may not necessarily be in the book you have and knows how to apply that knowledge to your circumstances.

Wouldn’t it be great if a book could do that?

5.    What information do you need from me before my consultation?

  • Address with complete postcode
  • Dates of birth of all the adults in the house for a domestic consultation or
  • Date of birth of the proprietor/manager of the business for a corporate or retail consultation
  • What you want from the consultation (your objectives)
  • Confirmation that you have a floor plan, or not.  (This will affect the length of the consultation)

6.    What happens during a consultation?

Prior to knocking on your door I'll be looking at the local area and may take photographs of your house/building which will help me when I come to write up your report.  (Don't worry, these are not kept unless used in your report which is kept confidential).

I'll take a few moments talking to you about any preparatory work I've done from the information you've given to me prior to our meeting and then ask you to show me around your property.

You'll then need to leave me to the survey.  If you've supplied a floor plan I'll check that it's accurate and to scale.  If you don't have a floor plan I'll draw one.  I'll take various compass readings and other readings depending on the scope of the consultation.  I'll then need to carry out various calculations and for this I'll need a quiet space to work.

When that's completed I'll take you through my findings and suggested actions.  There's often a lot to take in but don't worry about missing anything because I produce a full report for you after the consultation with an easy to read summary.

7.    How long does a consultation take?

This depends on the size of the property, whether you already have an accurate floor plan and the scope of the consultation.  I can give you an idea of time when you make a booking.

8.    Why do you ask for my date of birth?

Your date of birth gives me an insight into you.  Your character, motivation and the face you show to the world.  It also allows me to see how you interact with the energy in your environment.  That's how my service becomes specific to you.

Of course, what makes your situation even more unique is the other people you live or work with and the impact they have in your environment.  So, I’ll also ask for the dates of birth of any other adults.

By having your date of birth prior to your consultation I can prepare some of this in advance and won't spend as much time drinking your tea and eating your biscuits during the consultation.

9.    Can you focus on a specific issue?

It's a good idea to be clear on what you want to achieve from your consultation.  For a start, if you don't know what you want how will you know when you get it?

However, what's wrong with just wanting things to be better?  Sometimes specific issues will become very apparent when I complete your survey.  Or sometimes you'll see other improvements in your life other than the issue you were focussing on.

Even though we may view things happening in our lives as completely separate, they are often linked in ways that we don't acknowledge.  So, by bringing harmony into your life, you'll experience many improvements (both subtle and not so).

10.    When will I receive my report?

I’ll take you through some of the obvious things at the end of the consultation.  After that I’ll write up a report for you within a week of the consultation and either email or post it to you – whichever you prefer.

11.    When will I see the benefits of having a consultation?

You’ll be amazed how some simple tweaks can have an immediate effect such as a good night’s sleep or waking up with a more optimistic outlook.  Other changes are gradual and take their time.  Usually the change happens when you’re ready for it.

Remember though, the benefits don’t really come from the consultation.  They come from the changes recommended by the consultation.  You are part of the solution.

12.    Do I only need one consultation to improve things permanently?

Energy is constantly changing and, combining that with you and your environment means you get a unique result virtually every time.

Certain aspects of energy remain stable as long as your environment does.  Other aspects change from year to year so it’s useful to monitor your life and what’s happening.

Even if everything is great it might be worth having an update consultation once a year so you can go beyond great.

13.    What if your suggestions are expensive or impractical?

I live in the real world and take account of you and your circumstances.  You’ll find that the suggestions range from something small to something that takes a little more effort.  In an ideal world we would have perfect placement of our homes in the landscape and of the rooms and things within our homes but this world isn’t perfect.

You don’t have to carry out my suggestions.  In fact, if it feels wrong to you then I would urge you not to do so but to follow your own instinct.  Hopefully I can help you view your environment in a different light and experience it in a different way.  And often the smaller, easier changes are the ones that have a profound effect.
